About us

Harrow Harmony was formed in 1999 by Hilary Musgrave and several enthusiastic members of her Singing for Starters, a choral course for beginners run under the auspices of Harrow Choral Society. Many wished to carry on their singing after the course ended so were keen to create a new choir which now numbers over sixty-five.

The choir rehearses on Friday evenings in South Harrow and sings a wide variety of music including well-known classical pieces as well as songs by modern composers such as Howard Goodall and Karl Jenkins. However, innovative arrangements of popular songs have always formed a large part of the repertoire as well as songs from West End Shows. Our most recent concert demonstrated this versatility and included music by Handel, Haydn, Frank, a Beatles medley, Eva Cassidy songs, Gilbert and Sullivan, a medley from Les Misérables and arrangements of Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Harrow Harmony performs three main concerts locally during the year: one, to celebrate Christmas in which there is always a chance for audience participation, another in spring and a larger concert in the summer usually featuring a local guest musician. We always invite our audience to join us for refreshments after our concerts and our hospitality is now legendary!

In July 2008 we embarked upon a new venture by recording a CD entitled "Harrow Harmony Concert Celebration" in which we reflected our diverse musical tastes performing pieces by, among others, Vivaldi, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Sting, The Beach Boys and arrangements of traditional gospel songs.

September 2009 sees the 10th anniversary of the formation of the choir and as part of our celebrations we have commissioned Philip Lawson, baritone and principal arranger with The King's Singers to compose brand new arrangements of thee North East folk songs, "Bobby Shafto", " Blow The Wind Southerly" and "The Keel Row". We are all looking forward to giving these pieces their 'world' premiere.

The watch words of Harrow Harmony have always been "enjoyment" and "enthusiasm" which we feel is reflected in our concert performances as well as our rehearsals. In this anniversary year we look forward to going from strength to strength.
