Programme to feature a wide mix of music including madrigals and north east folk songs with contemporary pieces by John Rutter and Bob Chilcott.  There will also be a song from the musical Sweet Charity, music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and a trio of songs about love by Alexander L’Estrange.  There will also be the opportunity for audience participation when we perform two well known World War One songs.

Our soloist tonight will be flautist Gregory Mitchell.

Gregory Mitchell (Flautist)

Gregory received awards to study with Averil Williams and Peter Lloyd at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Edward Beckett at The National Centre for Orchestral Studies.

His performing career has since included live and recorded appearances on BBC Radio and Television, West End shows and numerous recital, chamber and concerto engagements throughout the United Kingdom and abroad.  As a freelance orchestral player he has performed a wide variety of repertoire and styles throughout the years and he has also participated in many educational workshops most notably with his flute quartet Tutti Flutti.

Teaching has always been an important part of Gregory’s career and he currently holds positions at both Harrow School and North London Collegiate School where in addition to individual lessons his work includes coaching various instrumental groups.  He has transcribed many works for flute ensembles and is also an accomplished saxophonist.
